What is a Fixed Benefit Health Plan?

A fixed benefit health plan provides coverage for in-patient hospital, out-patient surgical, skilled nursing, doctor visits, x-ray labs, prescription drugs, and much more. While you can use any doctor or hospital you choose without penalty, you have the option of accessing the PHCS Multiplan Network to take advantage of great savings at no additional costs.

What is Critical Illness?

Thanks to medical advances more and more people are surviving major catastrophic medical issues such as cancer, heart attack, and stroke. Unfortunately, it places a tremendous financial strain on the family. Critical Illness (CI) coverage protects your financial security and provides benefits for things like deductibles, prescriptions, rehabilitation, treatments not covered by existing insurance, your bills, your expenses, and lost wages.

What is Accident Protection?

Accidents happen when you least expect them— at home, at work, while playing or traveling. Accident coverage provides protection when you need it most but are expecting it the least. Also included is disability coverage to help provide a critical income until you can get back on your feet.

Why do I need Dental / Vision / Hearing Coverage?

Dental insurance is not just important to help you look good, it’s also important for good health. Regular cleanings are also essential to your physical health and quality of life. With Dental/Vision/Hearing plans priced lower than ever before, everyone can afford coverage.

What is Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC)?

Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) includes preventive and wellness services covered at 100% with no deductible, no co-pay, and no out-of-pocket costs. It provides access to important medical screenings, vaccines, counseling, and more to help you stay healthy. The MEC plan we offer is penalty proof, protecting you from taxation penalties under the Individual Mandate of the Affordable Care Act.

Why do I need Prescription Drug Coverage?

Prescription Drugs are the fastest growing costs in health care. Our Prescription Drug plan provides you with unparalleled control to customize coverage that’s right for you.

Healthcare Resources & Shopping Services

General Rules

There are a couple “general rules” to keep in mind when looking to get the best care at the lowest possible price:

  1. Hospitals are the MOST expensive place to receive certain types of care – While hospitalization is necessary for certain types of care, there are several services where receiving care on an “outpatient” basis will save you BIG money. Some examples include: Elective Surgery, Imaging Services (X-Ray, CT, MRI, etc.), Lab/Blood work.
  2. Avoid the Emergency Room if at all possible – Again, sometimes the ER is unavoidable, but far too often people go to the ER for treatment that is NOT a true emergency. The ER is far and away the MOST expensive place to get treated! Two articles that back this up are here and here. You should utilize ALL resources available to you before going to the ER. If possible, consider Urgent Care or your primary care doctor first. With your Manhattan Life plan use Teladoc and the Karis360 services to help you.

Keep the above rules in mind as you review the following tools and resources. Also, in all the following service categories I try to provide the most recommended website at the top. However, I always recommend that you do comparisons from several of the sites for each specific care situation:

Medicare

Medicare Supplement

A Medicare Supplement provides coverage for in-patient hospital, out-patient surgical, skilled nursing, doctor visits, x-ray labs, and much more.

Cancer / Heart / Stroke

Thanks to medical advances more and more people are surviving major catastrophic medical issues such as cancer, heart attack, and stroke. Unfortunately, it places a tremendous financial strain on the family. Cancer/Heart/Stroke (CHS) coverage protects your financial security and provides benefits for things like deductibles, prescriptions, rehabilitation, treatments not covered by existing insurance, your bills, your expenses, and lost wages. Lump sum benefit levels range from $1,000 to $50,000.

Dental / Vision / Hearing

Dental insurance is not just important to help you look good, it’s also important for good health. Regular cleanings are also essential to your physical health and quality of life. With Dental/Vision/Hearing plans priced lower than ever before, everyone can afford coverage.

Value Added Benefits

Teledoc 24/7 access to doctors by phone or video, at no additional charge.

Advocacy Healthcare is frustrating. Medical pricing and bills are confusing. Employees need someone to help. We provide you with an advocate to help you navigate the system and negotiate down your bills.

Doctors Online You can get fast answers at no cost from specialists via email or app: including physicians, specialists, psychologists, dentists. dietitians, fitness trainers, and more.

Prescription Savings Medicare does not cover all prescriptions and costs are skyrocketing. We provide you with discounts of 10-85% to save out of pocket costs.

Prescription Drug Coverage

Prescription drugs are the fastest growing costs in health care. Prescription Drug plans provides you with unparalleled control to customize coverage that’s right for you.

Short Term Care

Medicare does not pay for “Observation Days.” Nor the follow up nursing care unless confined as an inpatient for at least three days. In addition, Medicare provides no coverage for Long Term Care. Short Term Care is a simple, affordable solution to cover these gaps in your Medicare plan.

Life Insurance

Life Insurance is a way to leave money behind for the people who depend on you for financial support. Funds can be used to pay for funeral costs, meet living expenses, or pay off any debts. Some plans also offer living benefits in the case of a critical illness while alive.

Accident

Accidents are the leading cause of trips to the emergency room for seniors.  After an accident, medical costs can add up fast and Medicare does not always provide enough money to help pay the bills.  An Accident Expense policy can help you pay medical bills if you are injured in an accident. These bills could include: Ambulance Transportation; Emergency Care Services; Tests and X-rays; Surgery; Major Diagnostic Exams; Follow-Up Care Services; Durable Medical Equipment; Prosthetic Devices; and Rehabilitative Therapy.
